I really had NO CLUE what to expect from this -but HOLY WOW!
Seriously, just EPIC -a deep sci-fi meets spirituality meets mythology meets ...I dunno, whatever unique flavor THIS is! I love Ken Bouthillier’s style and storytelling, and I think that’s typically rare to find in a lot of indie comics (typically, there’s a strong suit in one or the other skill) -but here, he does it all with great pace and layout throughout. I feel like a lot of people have tried to make ‘deep’ comics or stories on a grand scale, but few seem to do it as naturally as KB while retaining 1)an engaging experience and 2)real HEART. Way to go, Sir -looking forward to more!

5 out of 5 stars.  Spacecraft, the cosmos, gods...Always a good mix!
Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2020Verified Purchase
This is the most sophisticated comic book out there. Imagine a space opera with Hindu gods, a diverse cast of humans and the drama that follows, and excellent examples of black and white illustration. I started reading Zindagi when the first issue came out and I was an immediate fan. I became friends with the creator Ken Bouthillier and was given the opportunity to pencil issues #7-9.
But this collection is #1-6 and so I think I can fairly review here. As an artist, I am drawn to the visual and there's a style here similar to the classic indie/underground school of comics in which creators did what they could without printing in color and managed to produce striking powerful imagery.
Zindagi is well-written too, with a grand plot, and contains a great deal of mythology. The dialogue is fun, the human conflict is never full, and the gods themselves are compelling in design and speech.
Give Zindagi a shot, you will not be disappointed. And also support indie creators!

This is EPIC. It’s a sci-fi spiritual fantasy mythology hybrid that has a lot of heart!
Great storytelling and pace, with a cool style -sucks you in immediately and keeps taking you a little deeper into cosmic wonder! Great bonus section getting to know the author (inspiring story there!) and getting a peek behind the scenes!
Highly recommended -looking forward to more from Zindagi!

So as I've said before, now that I'm on this awesome Indy comic journey and working my way into this thing, I've met some awesome people and seen some awesome projects. One of these is Ken Bouthillier and his project, Zindagi.  It's a cool sci-fi story about ancient Hindu gods and how they try and impact and observe Earth and its people. Issue #5 is now for sale on Drive-Thru Comics and the first four issues are free, which is a great marketing tool honestly. The ability to read the previous issues for free and then buy the fifth issue after you're hooked is super smart and I think this story will stick with a lot of people, the ramifications and the weight of conflict at the expense of power is always an important story and one that can be told in tons of ways. Check this thing out.

Being an Indian and familiar with Mahabharata, I am impressed with Ken’s understanding, in depth research and use of art to create a comic book with a deep social message. Knowing Ken personally overcome hurdles and have a positive outlook on life and finding art and drawing as a means to show that to the world amazes me. I would encourage all to read his comic books and see the deep meaning that Life is worth living and wars have never benefited anyone. Kudos for great Art and even greater story telling. Can’t wait to see his future works. Keep drawing and keep sharing the message of Love. Am honored to be a part of this series.

With this latest issue of "Zindagi," the story really starts to move forward, adding new elements even as previous developments come to a head. The philosophical themes are still very much present, but they are woven into the action instead of being used to stall it like some navel-gazing coffee break. I've said it before, and it bears repeating: Ken is creating a ground-up indie-comics cosmic saga the likes we haven't seen since Jim Starlin was the "new kid in town."

I can't recommend this comic enough! There's tons of digital comics out there and it seems like new ones pop up everyday. With that said, many aspiring indie creators and their work get to reach the surface and show themselves for just a little bit until the bigger wave follows. Jack Kirby once said "Comics will break your heart." As a creator myself, I can agree with that statement. Comics are tough and I'm not just talking about financial gain. I'm talking about getting readers.
ZINDAGI is a comic book that needs to be taken seriously. And enjoyed. Most comics today are digitally colored, usually done by a team, and do what they can to visually compete with a host of superhero titles. Ken, from what I see, draws ZINDAGI as a labor of love and you can tell with each page, he isn't trying to crank out content or filler. He deeply cares about telling this story. This comic is special, a hidden gem, and you will see more than action and heroics. Theres a merging of philosophy, theology, and technology. It made me think of Philip K Dick novels in that sense. In these first two issues, I have wondered if there is a layer of mystery and meaning I'm missing out on.  Artistically, Ken throws in some awesome visuals. The images of space and terrain are grand. The gray tones upon layers of rock reminded me of Tezuka at his best. The book's lack of color and its character design give it the feel of old school indie comics (works for me!). Reading, you really get the sense that his characters are part of a big universe. Perhaps this is my opinion, but I feel that the cosmos itself is just as much of a character in this story as the entities (deities?) and cadets. And Ken has managed to accomplish this in two issues!  Give this comic a try and see what unravels! You wont regret it! Its originality makes it an experience.

This is an independent comic book with a reason to exist and something to say. A new cosmic yarn is being spun, here, and not just some retread of something you read back in the day, either. Read it here before you're disappointed by the studio-driven movie later :)

Zindigi – Is an Urdhu/Hindi (Indian languages) word it means Life. The cover is an excellent painting and immediately sets the book aside from most other comics. The writing and art is well paced it introduces the key players. Ken uses washers and shading to great effect to give the impression of space and scale. The action builds up to a cliff hanger setting the scene for an exciting next issue.
